I hate to say that things are getting better at my school because every time I do something inevitably goes wrong. The year did start off on a bad note when I found out a good friend and teacher at my school was let go a week before school started. Details are hazy, but due to the track record of this school I am sure she was not treated fairly. The kids loved her and she was a good teacher.
However, I am cautiously optimistic. The first week has been completed. There was less confusion, fewer students switching classes, more organization in respect to bell schedule, etc., than last year at this time. My classes are AP US History, US History and Study Skills/Current Events. Two of those classes are brand new to me (AP and SS/CE) so I have to do a lot of prep work to do to get the classes running smoothly.
I have decided to tutor 6 hours a week, compared to the 10 I was doing last year. Tutoring took up so much of my free time last year but I just couldn't say no...it is such easy money. However, this year I know that I am going to need the free time, at least some of it for planning my new classes.
But balance is my goal this year so speaking of free time I have also decided to start taking yoga classes. I went to a hot yoga class yesterday with 3 other friends. It was amazing in the fact that you really do work every muscle of your body without the use of weights. After the class I felt good, but I was shaky and I knew that I would be sore the next day. Today I feel like someone beat me up!! I think a massage is in order this afternoon :)
