A new year has begun and along with that new year we have a new principal at AIS. Although the jury is still out, the new sheriff in town is not making many friends with her heavy handed approach. She began well by saying all the right things, but has done the opposite by dictating orders from the top down. We went from one extreme to the other. Why in the world can't we get someone in the middle???
Another item that is increasing my irritation meter is that I now have to deal with a one month single entry visa since I don't have my work permit yet. Oh, the joys of living in a country with a corrupt government who finally decide to put some laws in place. So, I guess I will be taking monthly trips to Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore or Malaysia until I can get this worked out...as if having a full time job weren't time consuming enough.
Each day continues to be a roller coaster ride about whether or not I want to put up with this. Every time I think I am set to stick out my contract something happens that makes me want to leave.
I need to start working on the book I want to write to keep my mind off the strangeness of this country and my school. I need motivation!!!
I'll end on a positive note. I am coaching the girls basketball team at AIS. This wasn't something I really chose to do, but was kind of coerced into it. I couldn't say no to the girls who asked me. Anyway, we have no facilities to practice and just got our uniforms the third game into the season. We lost the first two games 23-4 and 43-0...yeah you read that right. Anyway, we won on Thursday night 8-6!! We finally came across a team worse than us. Anyway, the girls were really excited and it was fun to see them that happy. Wish us luck for this week...we play International School of Ho Chi Minh City.
